CSULB is home of one of the most successful and prominent athletes in the world. Two time Olympic gold medalist Misty May-Treanor.
May- Treanor played all four years of indoor volleyball while she was at CSULB and led her team to a national championship in 1998. After graduation she went on to play in the AVP; a professional beach volleyball league. She quickly climbed to the top and went to the Olympics with partner Kerri Walsh in 2004 and 2008, where they won the gold medal for beach volleyball.
With an athlete such as May- Treanor, who has found incredible success in beach volleyball. It is hard to believe that our campus does not have a women's or men's beach volleyball team.
Although there have been rumors of talks about starting a team, there has been no real settlement on whether teams will be put into place anytime in the near future. Beach volleyball is a sport that many students can play and be taught quickly. It is not only a sport that is a lot of fun but there come many health benefits as well.

Like many sports on campus, the formation of a team depends on the students want to play. Will people come out to play? Will people want to watch the sport? Only time will tell if the home of a beach volleyball legend will begin to produce future legends by bringing the sport to CSULB.
